Overview

The Vital Statistics Unit offers 3 categories of services:

  1. Registration Services: refers to the registration of new births, deaths, marriages and adoptions.
  2. Post-Registration Services: refers to amending birth records, making a correction to an existing records and legally changing a name (deed poll).
  3. Information Services: refers to applying for a Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Death Certificate, Adoption Certificate, Registrar’s Certificate. Citizens can also apply for a custom information request.

HOW TO ACCESS THE VSU SERVICES

The VSU offers two convenient ways to access its services:

  1. Online Self-Service: Through the Civil Registry and Vital Statistics System (CRVS), citizens can create a personal account and complete all services entirely online, streamlining the process from the comfort of their own homes. Learn more about the CRVS System
  2. In-Person Assistance: For those who prefer face-to-face interaction or need additional support, citizens can visit their nearest VSU office to complete any service.

SERVICE TYPES

1. Same Day Service

Need your document quickly? Same-day service has you covered!

Here’s how it works:

  • Submit your application before 12:00 PM (noon).
  • Your document will be ready for collection by 4:30 PM the same day.

Please note: Same-day service only applies if all required documents are in order and may not be available for all types of requests.

2. Next Day Service

Need your document soon, but not in a rush? Our next-day service is perfect for you!

Here’s how it works:

  • Submit your application before 2:00 PM.
  • Your document will be ready for collection by 4:30 PM the next business day.

Please note: Next-day service depends on all your documents being in order.

3. Standard Service
Standard service will issue the certificate within 14 days of submission of the required documents.

ELECTRONIC AND PAPER CERTIFICATES

The Vital Statistics Unit is introducing e-certificates, providing applicants with the flexibility to request either an electronic certificate, a traditional paper certificate, or both formats. The e-certificates can be conveniently printed at home and are acceptable for all purposes. Both the e-certificates and paper certificates will feature a QR code that enables any entity to quickly confirm that the certificate is valid by scanning the code. This innovative approach ensures that both paper and electronic certificates are secure and verifiable.
